In the 4th (1999–2003) and 5th (2003–2007) Assemblies, he served as a representative for the Eleme constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly. He was the Deputy Whip for the 5th Assembly.

Marcus Ejii served as Rivers State's Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.

In 1999, when he was a member of the state assembly, he urged the state administration to give infrastructure development in the Eleme Local administration Area top priority because of the oil firms' presence and the influx of people that follows.

He also raised concerns about youth unemployment and the lack of senior positions for Eleme indigenes within these companies.

In Rivers State, Hon. Nle Ejii actively promoted the arts and culture. He participated at the 2008 Rivers State Carnival (CARNIRIV), highlighting the event's function in promoting the state's culture and drawing in tourists and business. In 2010, he signed a contract between the Rivers State Government and the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) on behalf of the Governor of Rivers State, demonstrating the government's dedication to advancing the arts and culture as a component of its plan for economic growth. In 2011, he urged people to come to Port Harcourt for the Garden City Games.

He attended a meeting in 2021 when the governor of Rivers State announced plans to resettle the Ekporo people, who had been uprooted for around eight years due to intercommunal conflicts.
