Rivers Sole Administrator To Address Land gripping, Herdsmen Attacks

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), the sole administrator of Rivers State, has made a bold commitment to address the escalating threats of land-grabbing, herdsmen attacks, and general insecurity head-on in an effort to restore peace and security throughout the state.
During a stakeholder engagement in Okehi, Etche Local Government Area, Ibas gave residents the assurance that his administration is not only listening, but also prepared to take action, through State Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga Adepoju.
“We are not just here to listen, we are here to act. Security is a shared responsibility, and the government will not rest until peace is restored in every part of Rivers State,” he said.
As a component of a statewide tour of LGAs, the engagement aims to collect input and develop community-driven solutions to urgent security issues. Onyenachi Nwankwor, the administrator of Etche LGA, expressed concern over the escalating insecurity, exposing that armed herders are occupying farmlands and threatening and extorting locals.
“We know the criminals, they are our children. But without jobs, healthcare, and education, we are pushing them into crime. Help us give them a better path,” Nwankwor appealed.
Dr. Silas Anyanwu, President-General of Ogbakor Etche Worldwide, added a chilling account from Afara community: “A farmer was assaulted for refusing to pay N6,000 to access his own land. People now sleep with one eye open.”
All eyes are now on the state government to turn these pledges into tangible action as tensions in rural areas increase.
