An Icon, Lover of Music, Chief Cyrus Kanwi is Laid to Rest

1st February, 2025 will forever go down in memory as the day an icon and music lover, late Chief Cyrus Kanwi was buried. The town of Aleto in Eleme Local Government Area was overwhelmed with grief and tributes as the remains of the socialite was laid to rest amidst tears and mournful wailing.



A large crowd of mourners that included family members, colleagues, loved ones and friends gathered at his country home at Okerewa Aleto, Eleme for the funeral service, and paying of last respects to a man whose love for entertainment touched lives in his locality and beyond.

Cyrus Kanwi, who passed away in the last quarter of 2024 at the age of 55, was honored with a heartfelt service attended by notable figures such as Rt. Rev Peter Effiong Ekpe, presiding Bishop of Inri Prayer Ministry, Eleme.

Bishop Ekpe, an herbal guru and mentor to late Kanwi until he passed away, described him as a man of great dignity and Integrity; a man who always stood for the truth and never comprised his stance no matter what.



Late Chief Cyrus Nwosu Kanwi started his education at the State Primary School, Aleto; he proceeded to Government Secondary School, Onne; then the defunct Freedom National College, Ogale, all in Eleme LGA of Rivers State.

His social life was a mix of football, music and general entertainment. Chief Cyrus Kanwi worked as a freelance D.J. in the 1980s and 1990s. He was not given much to creative footballing but he invested so much in the game and emerged the team manager of Okerewa Football Club. He proceeded to win the Aleto Unity Cup.

Late Chief Kanwi was married to Deaconess Blessing Cyrus Kanwi (1st wife) and Zahara Cyrus Kanwi (2nd wife).

During his burial, mourners were overcome with emotion as they gathered to pay their respects. His wives and kids were visibly moved.

Cyrus was finally laid to rest at his country home at Okerewa, Aleto in Eleme Local Government Area.
