In a poignant tribute, Nigerian writer and academic, Dr Obari Gomba, poured out his emotions, bidding a final goodbye to his beloved brother, Barrister Wuwu Gomba on 1st February 2025 at his home town, Alesa in Eleme Local Government of Rivers State.

He wrote: “I grew up to be intrigued by the pet names our parents called you but for me, you were simply Awu and O’boyi, and Big Bros. You were the elder brother, son of expectation and light, and our parents first arrow into the future.  Great was the aim, great was the flight, and great was the target. Our parents believed that they got it right with you, then everything would be right. They got it right. You got it right. You carried me along. We grew to be strong and hardworking. We realized that we must shine our light in this world. We planted our seeds, one day at a time, and God watered them.

“I was your younger brother, sometimes stubborn, sometimes adorable. I will give everything in the world to share one more moment of our childhood banter that was full of heat and innocence. I always lost the fights, and I always gained the love. You recall I was the child in the house who had a problem with eating. I can imagine what you endured – to get me to simply not – when our parents were away.

“We shared laughter, and we shared tears and sweat. Your friends became my friends. We shared food, clothes, books a bed, a room, to name a few.

“I always tell people that I got my love for education from you.”

The mortal remains of Barr Gomba were taken to his compound for interment, after the funeral service and ceremonial rites that were attended by his family members, professional colleagues and friends.

Late Barr Gomba started his education at State School Alesa, before proceeding to Ascension High School, Ogale Eleme. He moved to Comprehensive High School, Alesa and later, changed to St. Aquinas Secondary School, Elele where he obtained his Senior School Certificate in 1991.

He bagged a degree in Law from the Abia State University, Uturu in 2005, before proceeding to the Nigeria Law School, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.
