Fubara Went to Wike, Begged for Forgiveness
By Meshach Osaro.
Weeks after his suspension, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara reportedly paid Nyesom Wike a visit at his home in Abuja in an attempt to mend fences. Governor Abiodun of Ogun State and Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of Ogun State, escorted Fubara to Wike's home.
In the midst of the crises in Rivers, Wike's aide and close source Lere Olayinka provided additional information and confirmed the meeting.
According to PremiumTimes, the visit took place just days after Mr. Fubara met with President Bola Tinubu in London to discuss his political rivalry with Wike. Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) was named the sole administrator of Rivers State when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu proclaimed a state of emergency on March 18, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly.
According to sources, Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of Ogun state, and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state escorted Fubara to Wike's home. The insider claims that on Friday, April 18, 2025, Fubara paid Wike a visit and made a plea for amity between the two men.
On Friday, April 18, Fubara was taken to the minister's residence. According to one of the stories, he called Wike "My Oga" and bowed down for him while grasping his legs. The insider further stated that he remained at Wike's residence till the early hours of Saturday, April 19.
The outcome of the meeting is still unknown because many who know it have been reluctant to talk about it. Nevertheless, it was reported that Fubara was instructed to collect his followers in Rivers, particularly the elders, and inform them of the "truth" regarding his conflict with Wike. The encounter was verified by Wike's assistant. Wike's spokeswoman, Lere Olayinka, confirmed the event to PremiumTimes, saying that although the meeting took place, he was not aware of the contents.
