Women Unite in Favor of Emergency Rule in Rivers

By John Ollor Obe

To show support for the state's declaration of emergency, hundreds of women in Rivers State held a rally in the state capital, Port Harcourt, on Monday.  Just four days have passed since supporters of the suspended governor protested and called for the state leader's reinstatement.

According to the pro-emergency rule protestors, the state is in need of peace and not the suspended governor, contrasting the earlier gathering.

The women held cards that read, among other things, "We Need Peace, Not Fubara," "No Tribal War in Rivers State, No More Fubara," and "State of Emergency Is Constitutional."

“What we are doing here is a solidarity march in support of the state of emergency in Rivers State,” said Hon. Gladys Nweke, a former vice chairman of the state's Etche Local Government Area and one of the event organizers, in an interview with reporters.

There has been calm in Rivers State ever since the state of emergency was declared. Killings and cult activity in the state are no longer reported to us.

Remember how hundreds of women protested against the state of emergency and Governor Siminalayi Fubara's suspension last week under the banner of "Rivers Women for Sim"?
