Top Officials Are Fired by NNPC in a Wider Organizational Reorganization

Three state-owned refineries have had their management directors fired by National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).  Additionally, the corporation instructed management employees who had less than a year left to retire to go.

According to reports, Mustafa Sugungun, the managing director of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), Efifia Chu, the managing director of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (WRPC), and Ibrahim Onoja, the managing director of Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (PHRC), have all been fired.

Additionally, it was stated on Tuesday that their jobs' replacements have not yet been formally announced.  Lawal Sade, the chief compliance officer and former managing director of NNPC Trading, and Bala Wunti, the former Chief Upstream Investment Officer at the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), who was recently appointed the Chief Health, Safety, and Environment Officer at NNPC Ltd, were impacted.

Furthermore, it was said that the dismissals were not a deliberate attempt to remove supporters of the company's former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), but rather were a part of a larger organizational reorganization.

President Bola Tinubu fired the NNPC Ltd. board earlier this month, along with Mele Kyari, the company's GCEO, and Pius Akinyelure, the board chair.

Additionally, the president authorized Ahmadu Kida as the non-executive chairman and Bayo Ojulari as the NNPC's new GCEO.  Additionally, NNPC announced the hiring of a new senior management team consisting of eight members.

At the time, the firm stated that the appointments were effective immediately and that the news came after the Board of Directors and Mr. Ojulari were recently appointed.
