With a 4-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls at Chase Stadium on Saturday night, Inter Miami CF got back to winning ways and ended a three-game losing streak across all competitions.

The Argentine legend Lionel Messi scored his 859th goal in his career in the 67th minute of the goal blowout, according to a post on Fabrizio Romano's X handle on Sunday.

"Leo Messi's goals for Inter Miami now total 63 G/A in 53 games for the MLS team," Romano said. 859 career aspirations to date.

Fafa Picault, a winger who did not participate in the Concacaf Champions Cup loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the middle of the week, scored the first goal on a volley in the ninth minute to record his second consecutive goal.

After a protracted VAR review, defender Marcelo Weigandt added a second in the 33rd minute, and Luis Suárez scored his third goal of the 2025 campaign in the 39th. In the 67th minute, Lionel Messi completed a volley to make it 4-1 and offer more cushion for the second half.

Before the first half ended, the Red Bulls made a comeback thanks to a goal from Mohammed Sofo in the 43rd minute. Sofo nodded in a deep corner kick to keep the 2024 Eastern Conference winners within striking distance.

With the victory, Miami has only lost once this MLS season and now has 21 points from 10 games.
Miami FC's Javier Mascherano acknowledged the physical challenges of the game and the much-needed boost it provided the team during the post-match press conference held at Chase Stadium.

“It was a very physically demanding game – we needed it,” Mascherano said. “It was important to get back to a good feeling. In the first half, we were clinical in front of the goal, something we lacked in previous matches. In the second half, we tried to control possession more, and be less direct. At the end of the first half, we lost control of the ball and didn’t want to give them momentum.”
