By John Ollor Obe

Along with thousands of Gabonese citizens, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other African leaders attended the inauguration of Brice Nguema, the country's newly elected president, on Saturday.

Nguema defeated seven other candidates to win Gabon's most recent presidential election, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), and was sworn in as president on April 12, 2025.

Following a change of government and the removal of former President Ali Bongo, Mr. Nguema served as temporary president for 20 months.

Military parades, a march past, and a showcase of Gabon's rich cultural legacy were all part of the inauguration celebration, which took place at the Stade de l'AmitiƩ sino-gabonaise in Libreville, Gabon.

During his inauguration speech, Mr. Nguema expressed gratitude to the nation's population for their resounding support, which helped him win the presidency of Gabon through democratic means.

He promised to put in a lot of effort to further Gabon's development and give the country's youth the tools they need to safeguard its future.
