Nnamdi Kanu’s Sister-In-Law, Discovered Livestreaming Court Proceedings Barred from Three Hearings

Favour Kanu, the sister-in-law of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was prohibited from attending his trial by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday after she was discovered livestreaming the proceedings on Facebook.

The Nigerian government is prosecuting Mr. Kanu, a separatist who advocates for the secession of Nigeria's five southeast states and portions of some neighboring states as a sovereign Biafra nation, for treasonous felony and terrorism.

Fineboy Kanu, Mr. Kanu's younger brother, is married to Mrs. Kanu.Trial judge James Omotosho ordered Mrs Kanu to stay away from the next three court sessions after she admitted livestreaming the proceedings and apologised for the act.

According to the judge, Mrs. Kanu might have faced contempt of court charges.

The judge demanded that Mrs. Kanu not be allowed to attend the following three hearings, despite the fact that her attorney, Kanu Agabi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), also expressed regret on her behalf.

The court was surprised that Mrs. Kanu posted the video online even though her phone had been seized on the most recent delayed date when she was discovered recording during proceedings.

The judge promised all parties that justice would be done and warned them not to do anything that might postpone the trial.
