Ogale, Eleme, Rivers State - His Royal Highness King Godwin Bebe Okpabi, the Oneh-eh Nchia X of Eleme Kingdom and paramount ruler of Ogale, has advised the newly deployed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Eleme Police Division, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ifeanyi Nwafor, to remain impartial and resist being influenced by wealthy individuals in the area.

The monarch gave this counsel on Friday when SP Nwafor paid him a courtesy visit at his Obarijima Palace in Ogale.

King Okpabi highlighted a concerning trend among some affluent Eleme residents who, upon acquiring wealth, tend to become arrogant and use the police to harass perceived adversaries. He implored the new DPO not to condone such negative behavior but instead to leverage his position to foster peace and harmony within the community.

The traditional ruler also expressed his disapproval of the practice of blocking public roads, such as the Old Port Harcourt Road, for private celebrations simply due to the financial capacity of the organizers. He urged SP Nwafor to utilize his authority to curb such displays of wealth that inconvenience commuters and other road users.

Furthermore, King Okpabi addressed the issue of the increasing number of self-proclaimed traditional chiefs in Eleme. He explained that individuals who can afford chieftaincy regalia often declare themselves chiefs and appoint their associates as members of their councils. He advised the DPO to collaborate with only government-recognized traditional rulers and legitimate chiefs to ensure peace and order in the area.

During the visit, King Okpabi offered his blessings and prayers for SP Nwafor's successful tenure. He also presented the DPO with traditional gifts, including yams, plantains, and drinks, as a gesture of welcome to the Nchia traditional district.

The monarch further noted that Eleme land rewards those who serve it diligently, citing examples of former DPOs in the area who went on to achieve significant career advancements in the police force.

Earlier, SP Nwafor called upon King Okpabi and his chiefs to collaborate with the police in combating crime and ensuring the safety of Eleme. He emphasized that policing is a collective responsibility requiring the active participation of all stakeholders to maintain peace in the community.
