Days after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike denounced the Rivers women's walkout on First Lady Oluremi Tinubu as a state humiliation, the Senate took this action. After President Bola Tinubu invited the wife of Ibok-Ette Ibas, the state's only administrator, to speak, the women interrupted the occasion.

He expressed regret to President Tinubu and the First Lady, claiming that the demonstrators did not accurately represent the nature of the Rivers people.
