Stolen $2.9 Billion Refinery Funds, EFCC Probes Former NNPCL Boss, Mele Kyari and Others

By Meshach Osaro.

A comprehensive inquiry into the purported embezzlement of an astounding $2.9 billion designated for refinery rehabilitation during the tenure of former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) boss Mele Kyari has been launched by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Sources claim that the anti-graft agency has requested bank information, contract agreements, and compensation records pertaining to the contentious transactions, indicating that the noose is closing in on a number of high-ranking officials.

This incident serves as yet another upsetting reminder of how pervasive corruption has become in Nigeria's corporate and governmental leadership.

It is heartbreaking and distressing to learn that about $3 billion that was intended to revive Nigeria's dying refineries and lessen the country's reliance on foreign petroleum may have been embezzled.
