Peace Returns to Rivers State as Governor Fubara, Lawmakers Reconcile
After months of intense political turmoil, Rivers State has finally turned a corner. Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, have reached a political truce, ending a prolonged crisis that threatened governance and stability in the state.
The peace meeting, hailed as a breakthrough, marks the end of a bitter political standoff that had plunged the state into uncertainty. Tensions between the executive and legislative arms of government had raised fears of institutional collapse, prompting President Bola Tinubu to impose a six-month emergency measure to safeguard democratic governance.
The resolution brings a wave of relief to residents of Rivers State and stakeholders across the nation, many of whom had expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict. With this reconciliation, the path is now clear for the restoration of democratic norms, institutional harmony, and a return to focused governance.
In a key development during the peace process, both Governor Fubara and the lawmakers reaffirmed their allegiance to their political mentor, Barrister Nyesom Wike — the former governor of the state and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Their renewed loyalty underscores a broader realignment within the political structure of the state and reaffirms their commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which they were all elected.
The resolution marks a pivotal moment in what had become a high-profile and acrimonious political drama, defined by executive-legislative showdowns, open confrontations, and the collapse of previously strong alliances. With the principal actors now back on the same page, the focus is expected to shift toward governance, development, and the welfare of the people.
Under the leadership of Governor Fubara, Rivers State appears poised to embark on a fresh chapter of peace and progress.
