Chief Obarilomate Ollor Clinches Eleme Chairmanship as APC Sweeps Rivers LG Polls

The political atmosphere in Eleme Local Government Area turned jubilant on Sunday as Chief Obarilomate Ollor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was officially declared winner of the local government chairmanship election.

According to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Chief Ollor secured a commanding 77,452 votes, delivering a decisive mandate that consolidates both his personal political appeal and the growing influence of the APC across Rivers State.

For Eleme, a vital industrial hub and once a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stronghold, Ollor’s victory represents a significant shift. His campaign, built on promises of grassroots development, inclusivity, and local empowerment, resonated strongly with voters.

Political observers describe the scale of his victory as not just a win for the APC but also a consolidation of Ollor’s position as one of the emerging political leaders in Rivers. His mandate, they argue, is strengthened by the unprecedented sweep of the APC in 20 out of the state’s 23 LGAs.

The wider picture reinforces the significance of Eleme’s result. With the APC taking 20 LGAs, including Emohua (114,380 votes), Khana (156,027 votes), and Oyigbo (101,495 votes), the election has been interpreted as a resounding endorsement of the political structure now associated with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Only three LGAs: Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt City, and ONELGA were won by the PDP.

Chief Ollor’s emergence is expected to place Eleme firmly on the state’s political map. Analysts say his position affords him the leverage to push for industrial and infrastructural priorities long demanded by Eleme residents, while also strengthening APC’s local base ahead of future contests.

For the people of Eleme, his consolidation mandate carries the promise of stability, renewed grassroots governance, and a chance to align more closely with state-level opportunities.

Though the elections have been widely viewed as a product of Wike’s enduring political machinery, Chief Ollor’s victory reflects how local leadership can connect with community needs in a way that transcends the broader state rivalry between Wike and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

While Fubara’s absence and the boycott by his loyalists cast shadows over the polls, it was not enough to diminish the clear endorsement of candidates like Ollor, who benefited from strong turnout in Eleme.

With his win, Chief Obarilomate Ollor now faces the task of translating his sweeping mandate into tangible results for the people of Eleme. Expectations are high that his administration will tackle grassroots governance issues, stabilize local politics, and leverage Eleme’s industrial status for broader development.

As Rivers politics continues to realign, Eleme’s chairmanship election has positioned Chief Ollor as not just a local victor but a consolidating force in the unfolding political order of Rivers State.
